Beautiful, Bold, Brocade

Top (Mama Nguyen's Vintage), Brocade Pant (7 For All Mankind), Heels (Steve Madden), Purse (Badgley Mischka), Necklace (Saks Off 5th)

What's better than retail therapy to relieve stress during exam week, am I right ladies and gents? So during my "session", I wandered into the White Room at Hudson's Bay and found these beautiful brocade pants. I instantly fell in love with them and quickly made a purchase - no questions asked. The color pairing of these pants allow the print to appear more subtle from afar making it versatile. And if you haven't noticed by now, versatility is an important purchasing factor for me. Especially because I've been leaning towards adding more classic pieces to my wardrobe versus fast fashion. Even if it means spending a little bit more money for the quality considering I'll be saving money in the long run.

Ps. I actually paid $50 for these pants instead of $200 (no shame here)! Who else loves a good deal?

Something Borrowed

Dress (Market in Vietnam), Men's Leather Jacket (Vintage Versace), Shoes (Converse)

While in search of the perfect leather jacket, I decided to raid my step dad's closet to borrow one of his. When I laid my eyes on this baby... I knew it'd be the perfect garment to complete my laid back outfit. You're probably thinking "that's considered laid back"? Why yes, yes it is - this is my take on a laid back outfit. Being able to throw something on without having to put too much thought into what colors coordinate and what tops or bottoms match is so effortlessly convenient. Don't get me wrong, I do love prepping my outfit the night before but... Actually, there's really no excuse other than laziness gets the best of me sometimes. But hey, at least I've been able to avoid throwing on a pair of sweatpants! Mr. Karl Lagerfeld would be proud.

"Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants." - Karl Lagerfeld

A Pop of Print

If you were to compare my older sister’s closet to mine a couple years ago, you would have noticed that hers is filled with vibrant colors and different variations of prints. As for mine, I might as well have been named “Plain Jane” since I always played it safe by shopping for neutral tones and solid colors. I’ve sort of envied her and my younger sister (who has followed in her fashion footsteps) for being so bold with their fabric choices and accessories. Although over the years, I’ve learned to draw some fashion inspiration from their wardrobes and it has encouraged me to incorporate more bold colors and prints into my outfits.

Therefore, I now say with confidence that there’s nothing I love more than a good ornate print. Whether it’s of fruits, interlocking chains, or animals – a bit of print is guaranteed to provide visual interest and make your outfit pop!

Prom Fever

Jacket (Nom De Plume by YAYA), Bustier Top (Bebe), Skirt (H&M), Clutch (BCBGeneration), Heels (Steve Madden)

With prom season just around the corner, I was inspired to put together an outfit catering towards a 'prom look'. For those that haven't found your perfect prom dress yet, have you considered putting one together yourself? For example, as I did with this outfit by pairing a bustier top with a skater skirt (not too bad, right?) By putting together your own prom dress, you can reassure yourself that you won't be stuck with a dress worn only once. Instead, you can recycle these pieces for a different outfit which means you'll get your moneys worth! Wouldn't you agree?

Happy first day of Spring everyone :)

Peplum on Peplum

Peplum Top & Blazer (H&M), Denim Pants (Urban Behavior), Flats (Aldo), Ring (Forever 21),
Nail Polish (You Don't Know Jacques by OPI)

As you can see, the weather in Vancouver this past weekend was perfect! I know... I'm always babbling on about the weather but it's very important to me because 1. it determines what I should wear and 2. I'm in dire need of some more Vitamin D in my life (seriously, you can never have too much sunshine). So back on track, call me a fashion repeat offender if you insist. But I decided to wear my peplum pieces again - this time I styled it more casually by pairing it with ripped jeans. And honestly, I can't seem to remember the last time I wore denim pants. I do know for a fact that I won't be wearing these ones again until I replace the zippers (pretty sure all of Vancouver saw my pink knickers - oops sorry)!

Time to catch some zZz's. Goodnight :)

Asymmetrical Skirt

Top & Cardigan (Zara), Skirt (Forever 21), Wedges (Aldo), Scarf (H&M)

The weather in Vancouver has been gorgeous this past weekend and even though it was quite chilly out, at least the skies were clear! Therefore, I couldn't resist myself and brought out this asymmetrical skirt I bought last year but had never worn. As much as I love this outfit pairing of a heavy Winter wool cardigan with a Spring/Summer skirt, I can't wait to be able to wear it with just a plain white tee. In addition, since I'm not 5"9... wearing heels with this skirt is mandatory for little ol' me.

I hope you're all having a happy Monday!

Spring Forward!

Blazer & Necklace (H&M), Top (Wilfred from Aritzia), Pants (Kimchi Blue from Urban Outfitters,
Loafers (Cole Haan)

A quick post before class - with Spring just around the corner, I figured why not get a head start! I recently bought this blazer since I believe that it's a must-have item for Spring/Summer because 1. of the color and 2. it's semi-peplum (you know how much I love those). Pairing this mint-green blazer with leopard print loafers definitely brightens my mood which helps to avoid depression here in Raincouver!

Have a happy Humpday everyone :)

Fendi Fix

Blazer (Zara), Tank (Gap), Fendi Pants (Vintage), Heels (Sam Edelman)

A pair of Fendi pants fresh from Mama Nguyen's closet coming right up! When in dire need of a classic piece to complete my outfit, you can find me rummaging through my mom's closet. Mama Nguyen was kind enough to let me borrow her favorite pair of pants and I was hesitant to wear it at first but she insisted. Don't worry, I made sure to be extra careful and they're now safely back where they belong. Looking back at her old pictures, my mom is usually spotted wearing high-waisted pants (my fave) and maybe that's what sparked my love for them. Standing at 5"3, they do a whole lot for me by giving the illusion of longer legs (too bad I wasn't a Victoria Secret model). Oh well - work with what you've got, right? Or as the wise Tim Gunn would say, "make it work"!

Viva Las Vegas!

Let's play catch-up:

{First and foremost} Chuc Mung Nam Moi/Gung Hay Fat Choi... In other words, Happy Lunar New Year everyone ^__^v

{Secondly} I'd like to wish all you Februbabies a very Happy Birthday! Especially to my sister, Hang and one of my best girlfriends, Hannah!

{Lastly} I can't believe I've been so MIA! February is almost over and I'm only on my second post for this month (shame on me). As you can see, February has been such a busy month and always is every year. It's a tradition that we go to Vegas for Hannah's birthday around this time every year which makes the month even shorter. Regardless, we enjoy ourselves and have come to a consensus that every year turns out better than the last! Not only is the shopping amazing but so is the food (all you can eat buffets *drools*). The fact that almost everything is open 24/7 reminds me a little bit of my second home, Vietnam.

During this trip, we met a lot of native Hawaiians and learned some Hawaiian slang *ahem* "where da bathroom stay"? and... Well, that's the only one I can remember right now. Sorry folks! The cherry on top of our trip was having a games night in Vegas... How often does that happen?! Games night + Vegas = BEST OF BOTH WORLDS! So, walking distance to shopping destinations, good food, and friendly people - what more can you ask for? Hopefully, we'll be back to enjoy some sun in the summertime! We'll see you soon Vegas ;)

And... That's a wrap!

Dress or Sweater?

Sweater (Vietnam), Denim Vest (Forever 21), Tights (Calvin Klein), Boots (Spring), Hat (H&M),
Watch (Michael Kors)

It's an over-sized sweater worn as a dress! So... I guess it's a sweater dress (best of both worlds)? Sweater dresses or over-sized sweaters are so versatile. I believe that it's a staple item to have in the closet for Fall/Winter because it can easily be paired with anything. Also, instead of going for the casual look as I did here; this outfit can be dressed up by losing the tights and throwing on a pair of heels. Can you picture it? Because I can! This casual ensemble makes it so easy to transition into a dressier outfit.
